Photos from sorrento

Hi all now in Athens waiting for our boat to come in heheh

We had a great time in sorrento spent one day just site seeing.

We went to ischia an island near Naples and went to a garden complex that had lots of different temperature thermal pools, and just for fun they like to jump from the 40 degree pool into the minus 15 degree pool, the boys found it a bit of a challenge I noticed. Meanwhile Peter had yet another siesta!

The facility also had it's own private beach.

That evening Peter's sister Ann and her husband Tony met us back at sorrento, great to see a familiar face and not have to worry about language, I was starting to speak in broken English

We all enjoyed a champagne which I believe is customary in sorrento, oh that according to me that is.

We then went back to the grande marina to have dinner.

The next day with a bit of a sore head we went to Pompeii to look at some old stuff, actually it was really great to think they had steam baths and saunas and sewerage systems 2000 years ago, amazing

The city itself was very large, much larger than I would have though, that mountain behind Peter is mt. Vesuvius

The amazing thing about walking around the ruins is that the whole perished in an instant. Nothing changed in the city following the volcanic eruption. Historians are therefore very certain how the ancient townspeople lived, worker and played - they even discovered many brothels.

The guide also explained haw early archeologist made plaster casts of people who died from the volcanic ash cloud with their skeletons intact. You can see in the following photo a persons skull and teeth exposed.

This photo shows a travertine (marble quarried in the local area) column with a sun dial on the top with mt vesuvius in the back ground.

Typical street in pompeii.

Floor mosaic of typical house.

Back to sorrento.
Tony, ann, Peter and I went on a day cruise along the amalfi coast.

Here we are on the back of the boat......
