In and around Pienza

Cooking lesson in a small farm house near Pienza -
Making pasta (pici, hand rolled pasta). You may notice I am concentrating very hard, us engineers need to achieve 2.5mm dia + or - 0.05. Karen and I had a great day eating, drinking and of course siesta in a hammock.

Here is the chicken dish before cooking, which was prepared over night.

Still a bit young to drink???

2nd last night in Pienza - village BBQ. Mmmmm

Falconry display at Monteriggioni just north of Siena. We think he may have lost one of his birds - it did not come back when he called. He also had a huge hunting owl which stood about almost 1m tall. Look at those claws.

We also got to swimming at bagno vignoni where there are thermal pools
They were setting up for a wedding

One of the highlights was visiting Roberto a lovely man who has a vineyard on the top of a hill with spectacular views the name of winery is called archer. He provided a beautiful lunch with great wine. Roberto is a champion archer and has won several competitions in the local area.

There was just us and Barbara she drove us everywhere!

We also went to the Old Cat winery at Montepulciano - Karen prompts "also great wine". It had a wonderful very old wine cellar/grotto.

The old wine cellar, according to legion had a crypt - see us very scared.

And time for one last winery in the Tuscany region at Montalcino for some Brunello wines (they can only be called Brunello wines if they contain 100% Sangiovese grapes (see the photo above of the vine) from the region around Montalcino.

The photo was then from the Larocca fortress where the wine shop was.

Here are some great plant photos Mum.

One last photo for all you Gladiator nuts. This is apparently the avenue of cyprus trees used in the scene when he returned to find his wife and child murdered.

Bye for now.

Ps. Forgot about our visit to san quince d'ora a pretty little town, it was Sunday and the town bells were ringing

Just to keep the intruders in line. Heh!

PPS. Photo from our hotel breakfast room in Roma, time 7.30pm.
