Delos - Classical Greece Cruise

Today we visited Delos the mythical birthplace of Apollo and his twin sister Artemis. This island is the largest archaeological park in Europe. The island is under the protection of UNESCO and the archaeology society of Greece. Delos was considered the spiritual and commercial centre of the Aegean.

They had an advanced sewer system...

In the sacred way stands the famous five 7th century BC (thats right 7000 years before christ) marble lions, guardians of the sacred lake.

They also had an advanced system to collect rain water. This under ground tank held 10000 letres.

This photo shows how they held together the marble slabs using copper bows fixed into the stone with molten lead.

Stairs to a now non existent second story to a typical house.

Magnificent floor mosaics.

This is a typical stove in the 7th February BC.

We then sailed to Mykonos.
